The actual I/O transactions derived from the I/Ometer benchmark configuration do NOT directly correspond to the likely framerate that SCRATCH® will provide under playback conditions. To put the results in this section into context the ASSIMILATE™ demo configuration has been benchmarked. This type of system is used by ASSIMILATE during client demos and is considered a basic but highly capable configuration for fully interactive working and proxy-free real-time 2k playback.

The minimum numerical values derived from the I/Ometer benchmark based on an ASSIMILATE Demo System running on a BOXX "3D BOXX 7112" with 10 scsi disks spread across two U320 SCSI channels and striped under Windows XP:

BM IOps Total bandwidth to/from disk
BM1 34 IOps 421MBps
BM2 31.5 IOps 388MBps
BM3 30 IOps 369MBps
BM4 29.5 IOps 362MBps
BM5 32 IOps 394MBps
BM6 25 IOps 311MBps
BM7 32.2 IOps 396MBps

What do the Benchmarks Measure?

BM1 simulates sequential access on a non fragmented volume.
BM2 simulates sequential reads and writes of the same size on a volume, as would be encountered by a render process.
BM3 simulates random access to files on the volume and stresses the latency characteristics of the storage.
BM4 is similar to BM2 but takes into account a more random distribution of files processed by a render process.
BM5 test sequential write access to the volume.
BM6 tests random write access to the volume stressing the latency characteristics of the storage.
BM7 simulates access to two 2k like data streams, taking into consideration a high degree of non sequential access.
