Superman Returns
Conform, Infrastructure and VFX Prep
Marina-Del-Rey, California-based Digital Sandbox was referred to as the HUB, symbolizing its key position in the DI pipeline for Superman Returns. Digital Sandbox was responsible for the final conform of the film before going to final color grading. They were also responsible for quality control, preparation of visual effects shots, and LUT management throughout the post-production process.

Conform, Infrastructure and VFX Prep
Los Angeles-based Hollywood DI (Fairbanks Theater, The Lot) provided screenings of VFX shots as well as entire reels of the film on a daily basis for review and approval by director Bryan Singer, DP Tom Sigel, and team. Playing back off a SCRATCH® system to a 2K projector, Hollywood DI was connected via high-speed fiber-channel networking to the Digital Sandbox HUB.

Creative Bridge

Dailies and Screening
Los Angeles-based post facility Creative Bridge uses SCRATCH as the DI backbone of their mobile post-production truck to provide on-site screening capabilities for production or post-production environments.

Digital Domain

VFX Screening and Infrastructure
Venice, California-based Digital Domain utilizes the XML back-end of SCRATCH with a custom-built web-based front end for automation of shot submission from VFX artists and automated assembly of VFX screening reels. SCRATCH works as the core infrastructure for their entire dailies pipeline.

DNA Productions

Full end-to-end solution
SCRATCH plays a key role at Texas-based DNA Productions, which was tasked with the DI finishing for a new animated feature film, The Ant Bully, a co-production by Tom Hank’s and Gary Goetzman’s Playtone and Warner Bros. Using SCRATCH as their conform, color grading/management, and infrastructure tool, DNA completed the DI process entirely within the SCRATCH software.
