Backbone
for a Resolution-Independent DI Pipeline
|
Dailies
As more film productions move to digital acquisition,
the turnaround time for viewing dailies is shrinking.
SCRATCH® is an ideal DI workflow solution for
providing the quick turnaround needed for reducing
the currently required weeks or days to a few hours.
Because SCRATCH can read files directly in their
native format rather than importing them into a
proprietary format, shots can be loaded and ready
for real-time screening immediately. Users can also
load entire directory structures in one quick step
simply by pointing to a root folder. SCRATCH will
interpret the directory structure and maintain the
relationship of individual shots contained within
the folders to one another. This enables users to
focus on the critical aesthetic and quality issues
of the project rather than managing individual files
and folders.
The organizational capabilities of SCRATCH allow
users to make on-the-fly changes easily during a
review session as well. Whether it’s calling
up a previous version of a shot or re-arranging
existing shots, users can adapt quickly to the needs
of the review session and provide directors and
producers with the feedback they require to make
accurate and timely decisions.
SCRATCH is also being used extensively as a review
tool by high-end visual effects and trailer facilities.
Utilizing SCRATCH’s ability to be controlled
through XML command scripts, users can add and remove
shots from the CONstruct without the need to use
the Graphical User Interface. This capability enables
extensive automation within a production pipeline.
The XML back-end of SCRATCH can be used to create
an automated system for VFX artists to submit final
shots and have them placed into the SCRATCH CONstruct
for viewing in daily review sessions. What used
to require a VFX editor to build can now happen
automatically with just a final check being done
by the VFX editor before the daily screening.
