SCRATCH
for Color Grading
SCRATCH® can read digital image files
directly – a capability that makes it an ideal
tool to seamlessly plug into any part of a file-based,
DI workflow. With an extensive color-grading toolset,
SCRATCH can work directly with existing files and
apply the necessary color grading to establish and
sustain the look and feel of a film. Even if the
conform is done on a separate system, the user need
only provide SCRATCH with the conformed files and
any edit decision information for shot-by-shot grading.
From this, all color grading can be done, using
not only primary Lift, Gamma and Gain controls but
also secondary color grading and advanced shape-based
techniques.
As the color grading process becomes more complex,
there is a growing need for more advanced tools.
SCRATCH SCAFFOLDS™ allows for unlimited layers
of color grading with free-form shapes which can
be tracked to follow on-screen objects and be animated
over time. Within SCAFFOLDS, users can control each
grading layer’s blending mode, transformation
and even individual color channel manipulations.
Each layer can also have independent fill and matte
sources, allowing for precise control over the adjustment
area. This all combines to give users infinite control
over the look of each shot.
The SCRATCH Look-up Table (LUT) management capabilities
address a critical part of the color grading process
as well. LUTs are moving beyond just simple monitor
calibration tools and into the realm of look and
mood management for a film. The ability to apply
LUTs at various stages in the post production process
and easily track and manage those LUTs, makes SCRATCH
a valuable tool for coordinating all of the various
looks that are applied to a film throughout the
color grading process.
